Gulf Coast Community Foundation Awards Grant to JA of Biloxi/Ocean Springs

Thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, the Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi-Ocean Springs will be helping hundreds of underprivileged children this upcoming school year.

The Biloxi-Ocean Springs chapter’s annual school aid project will benefit greatly thanks to the generosity of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, said Sharon Weeks, president of the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Chapter. We share the foundation’s goal of making sure every child has a chance to learn and grow in the classroom environment.

This year’s project is supported by the foundation’s "Build Back the Coast Katrina Recovery Fund", a Fund of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. The money is used by Junior Auxiliary members to purchase school clothes, supplies, medical necessities and other materials for children in need. Those items are donated to school officials, who then distribute the supplies to qualified students.

Last school year, the Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi-Ocean Springs helped 140 children through the school aid project.
